The Frederic Remington Art Museum continues its series of adult art classes with an alla prima painting class taught by local artist Julie Pratt. The class will be held in the classroom at the Eva Caten Remington Education Center. Pratt will guide participants through a step-by-step approach to this style of painting, teaching the necessary techniques and skills. Alla Prima means ‘“at first go,” i.e. in one session. Also known as “direct painting,” alla prima involves placing layers of wet paint upon each other. It is a very intuitive, responsive, and direct approach to painting. If you are an artist who has trouble finishing a painting, or wants to loosen up your painting style, or who responds to instinct and emotion while you are painting, then Alla Prima painting may be for you. All skill levels are welcome, and materials will be provided, though artists are welcome to bring their own materials if they prefer. The class is limited to 12 participants.
