Does my time in the Army give me a tax break? How long do I have to use my education benefits from my service time? How do I find out if my service-related injury qualifies me for medical care? Is there any support available to help me take care of a Veteran? These questions are often raised by Veterans and their Families. There are many agencies within the North Country dedicated to supporting Veterans of the present and past conflicts providing information on new, increased, or retroactive benefits to Veterans and their Families. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2014, the Fort Drum FMWR Soldier and Family Assistance Center will host a Veterans? Information Day at the James W. Wright Community Room in the WPBS building at 1056 Arsenal St., Watertown, NY. This Information Day will bring together several Federal, State and non-profit organizations in one location to provide a face-to-face interaction between Soldiers, Veterans, their Families and Survivors. This is a great opportunity for Service Members, Veterans and their Families to find out about benefits, entitlements and services available to them in an on-the-spot, one-stop information gathering, rather than relying on phone service or having to travel inconvenient distances. Anyone who has served in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces on Active-duty for more than 180 days is considered a Veteran and is eligible to receive benefits. For more information, contact the Soldier & Family Assistance Center at (315) 772-0035.
