Small Engine Maintenance Instructor (Winter/Spring Storage Course)

LOCATION: Jefferson Lewis BOCES with initial assignment at
                   Bohlen Technical Center, Watertown, New York
                                                                                                                  
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES: We are seeking an experienced and knowledgeable Small Engine Maintenance Instructor to teach a short course focused on preparing small engines for winter/spring storage. This course is designed for homeowners, hobbyists, and seasonal equipment users who want to prolong the life of their small engines by learning best practices for off-season care.

           Some duties include:       

  • Develop and deliver engaging, hands-on lessons
  • Demonstrate proper maintenance and safety techniques
  • Provide students with checklists, maintenance schedules, and winter prep guides
  • Answer questions and support diverse learning styles
  • Ensure a safe, inclusive, and interactive learning environment
  • Be willing to offer the course in the fall & spring                                                   
QUALIFICATIONS:                         
  • 5 years’ proven experience working with small engines (repair, maintenance, or instruction)
  • Strong knowledge of seasonal maintenance practices
  • Prior teaching or public speaking experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate clearly with both novice and experienced learners
  • Certifications (e.g., OPE, STIHL, Briggs & Stratton) are a plus but not required
              Must be fingerprinted.
 
COMPENSATION: $25.00 per hour
 
SCHEDULE: 1-2 evenings per week for 4 weeks
 
STARTING DATE: August 17th, 2026
