Survey Field/Office Technician

Storino Geomatics Land Surveying and Consulting, PLLC is seeking a motivated individual to work in its Watertown, NY Office.   The position is approximately 25% office work and 75% field work/ data collection.  An ideal candidate would have knowledge of both survey field operations and office support. The position is considered to be full time; however, this is contingent upon workload.
 
Essential Functions 

  • Research, including searching of legal records, survey records, and land titles in order to obtain information relative to property boundaries in areas to be surveyed, utility research
  • Performance of boundary, topographic & utility, ALTA/NSPS, and FEMA surveys etc.
  • Cutting and clearing of brush and trees from survey lines and boundaries utilizing machetes, axe, chainsaws and other cutting tools
  • Performance of construction layout and associated calculations
  • Familiarity with use of GPS/GNSS equipment, conventional and robotic total stations, data collectors and levels
  • Ability to apply basic surveying concepts and calculations for required fieldwork
  • Must prepare and maintain clean, neat, legible, field-notes, sketches, maps, and reports of surveys
  • Verify the accuracy of survey data, including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
  • Draft professional grade mapping using AutoCAD and prepare legal descriptions of surveys
  • Routinely clean and service surveying equipment to ensure functional operational accuracy
  • Analyze survey objectives and specifications in order to assist in survey proposal preparation
 
Physical Demands / Work Environment & Attire 
  • Must be of sound physical condition; employees must routinely lift, move and or carry up to 50+ lbs, sometimes for considerable distances
  • Outdoor duties year-round. Ability to work in various changing temperatures and terrain
  • Intermittent travel and overnight stays required both in-state and out-of-state – Storino Geomatics provides services in NY, NJ, PA & VT
  • Work Attire: Appropriate dress for year-round, outdoor work, including work boots
 
Required Skills & Behaviors 
  • Prior experience in Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook
  • Prior experience in AutoCAD (Carlson) is preferred, but not required
  • Prior field data collection experience is preferred, but not required
  • Sound communication and technical writing skills
  • Highly motivated and team oriented
  • Valid Driver’s License, clean driving record
  • Any/all other skills commensurate with the position
 
Organizational Relationships

Reports directly to Survey Project Managers and Company Partnership
 
Required Education/Experience 
  • Associates/Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying (ABET Accredited) preferred. Other candidates considered with relevant, documented surveying experience
  • Goal of professional licensure preferred (but not required). All Applicants considered
