4-H Camp Wabasso Program Director

This position will serve as the 4-H Camp Wabasso Program Director for Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County and will work under the direction and supervision of the Youth and Family Development Issue Leader. This position is responsible for the overall management of Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Jefferson County’s 4-H Camp Wabasso located in Redwood, New York.  The camp features a six-week (+/-) summer residential youth camp season as well as day programs and overnight programs in environmental education, leadership training, and related 4-H youth programming in shoulder seasons.  Responsibilities include: managing and promoting the use of camp facilities, preparing for the summer camping season, marketing, fundraising, grant writing, training and supervision of seasonal staff, as well as staff during the shoulder season, scheduling of camp-related functions, 4-H education program responsibilities utilizing research-based materials, accreditation, and general supervision of the facility.  This position will assist as needed with facilities.  The Camp Director will sleep on-site in a private cabin with private bathroom and kitchenette during periods when summer staff (i.e. Staff Training) and/or youth are in overnight residence at camp.  This position will be responsible for enhancing 4-H Programs, resources and collaborations in all assigned areas of 4-H Youth Development programming, and will be responsible for the implementation of innovative 4-H programming in accordance with the 4-H Youth Development Program Area’s Plan of Work and the 4-H Camp Wabasso Strategic Plan – (ex. Student Government, National 4-H week, AGVentures, supporting 4-H afterschool and other 4-H community programming).  This position will maintain ACA accreditation for 4-H Camp Wabasso. This position is responsible for maintaining all Department of Health standards. This position will directly supervise the following positions in the Youth & Family Program Area: Camp Maintenance, Administrative Assistant and Association Temporary Program positions as needed, including the summer residential camp staff at 4-H Camp Wabasso. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 24 weeks of camp administration experience or 24 weeks of another type of administrative experience that is relevant.
  • Valid Driver’s License and the ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (DMV and criminal background checks).
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards (After-School Checks –Grant Based).
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
