TITLE: English as New Language Teacher (Part Time Position)
LOCATION: Initial assignment in in the Lowville Academy & Central School District
RESPONSIBILITIES: ? Teach English as a second language to students in a public school grades K-12 as the dictated by student need. ? Plan, organize, & provide instruction in English that meet state standards. Provide instruction that is consistent & coordinated with the school’s instructional program so as to ensure that students meet & exceed learning targets ? Develop & deliver lesson plans that utilize a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques & strategies: may be delivered through a virtual learning environment. ? Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages student responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies ? Adapt curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial instruction as to meet the needs of individual students and subgroups of students ? Establish & maintain standards of student behavior required to run an orderly & productive classroom environment while maintaining complete & accurate records of student progress & evidence of growth & progress; Manage allotted learning time to maximize student achievement ? Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students ? Address all aspects of communication through appropriate instruction that develops each student’s ability to read, write, speak, and listen in the appropriate content area ? Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating student progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition ? Engage and support all students in reaching high expectations for learning and behavior ? Implement crew and other EL structures for establishing a positive classroom environment.
? Provide for continuous student evaluation—prepare reports and make recommendations for improvement
? Collaborate with classroom teachers & other instructional staff & communicate regularly & effectively with parents
? Perform other duties as may be assigned by the Principal
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess:
? NYS Certification in ESOL
? Bi-lingual preferred, but not required (Spanish and/or German)
? Knowledge of the NYS Learning Standards and Assessments
? Knowledge of curriculum content and methods/strategies of instruction
? Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
? Excellent written and oral communication skills
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: $48,766 - $55,360. Commensurate with certification/experience in keeping with the current negotiated agreement with the BOCES Professional Association.
