Early Education Teacher - Watertown, NY

Sign on Bonus $2500 -  Paid in installments -  $500 after 6 months, $1000 after 1 year, and $1000 after 2 years. Must be NYS certified to be eligible for bonus.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work – Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 3:00 pm; flexible to the needs of the program; may be required to occasionally work after regular business hours. 10 month plus extended school year (6 week summer program).

 

Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field; or an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood with two years’ experience in a child care setting preferred; or Child Development Associate Credential and five years’ experience in a child care setting.

 

Work Authorizations/Security Clearance – Authorized to work in the United States and pass all background clearances.

 

Summary/Objective - Responsible for the overall operation of the classroom as it pertains to the “Routine of the Day”. Ensure curriculum is based on Early Childhood Education standards, developmentally appropriate practice and guidelines to promote the physical, emotional, cognitive, social and creative growth of children.3. Monitors and documents the educational progress of each child. Establish and maintain a safe, healthy and nurturing “learner-centered” environment. Incorporate parent involvement in your curriculum. Responsible for the general supervision of teacher aide staff. Carry out duties in accordance with the regulations of any and all programs through which children are serviced:  Office of Children & Family Services, NYS Education Department, and/or NYS Department of Health, NYS Office of Early Learning, Watertown Central School District, etc.

  1. Responsible for the planning and implementation of developmentally appropriate lessons and activities for all children within a daily classroom schedule.
  2. Collaborate with the Special Education teacher to create differentiated lesson plans for a wide range of abilities and learning styles that meet early childhood guidelines and NYSED learning standards. 
  3. Communicate the lesson plan to all classroom staff with assigned responsibilities.
  4. Ensure the day’s instructional materials are prepared prior to the arrival of children.  
  5. Ensure the proper use and storage of supplies and materials.  Conducting inventory as needed and request supplies following the purchase requisition and personal expenditure procedures. 
  6. Incorporate small and large group activities that promote inclusive opportunities with all children.
  7. Conduct Authentic Assessments on an ongoing basis of typically developing children utilizing approved assessment tools and data collection techniques. 
  8. Implement behavior management plans in collaboration with the Special Education teacher. 
  9. Maintain files or records of children in the classroom. 
  10. Complete attendance and wellness tracking forms immediately upon a child’s arrival.
  11. Remain cognizant of children’s current medical status.  Consult with Pediatric LPN regarding any change in child’s health or behavior. 
  12. Complete incident reports and documentation of minor injuries as needed.
  13. Ensure proper staff/child ratio and supervision is maintained at all times.
  14. Communicate with parents on a regular basis to include a weekly newsletter and communication notebooks as needed.
  15. Hold bi-annual parent-teacher conferences as scheduled and additional conferences as needed and/or requested.
  16. Attend staff meetings as requested.
  17. Participate in conferences, workshops and/or in-service trainings as needed or required.

Work Environment - The position operates out of the Bright Beginnings Early Learning Center and may require lifting of children, playing with students on the floor or outside.  This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 

Phsyical Demands - The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; lift; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Work may require lifting, pushing, or pulling in excess of 30 pounds.

Wage Range- $18.11-$23.09/Hour, Based Education, Experience, and Certification
