Crisis Services Advocate
Job Summary: The Crisis Services Advocate holds a pivotal role within the Victims Assistance Center, providing crisis services, intervention, and resources to victims. This position requires a flexible schedule to ensure 24/7 coverage, shifts will include: days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Respond to crisis calls in collaboration with local law enforcement agencies.
- Provide comprehensive advocacy services, including crisis intervention, counseling, and assistance with New York State Office of Victim Services compensation applications.
- Inform clients about their legal rights at the time of the incident.
- Arrange transportation for clients to appropriate destinations.
- Initiate the intake process for clients entering the Residential Facility.
- Provide complete orientation to Residential Facility for new clients.
- Assist in client intake procedures and provide Hotline coverage, as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and timely client progress notes and information in case records.
- Keep statistical data as required for reporting purposes.
- Ensure the safety and security of Residential Facility residents.
- Maintain cleanliness of the Residential Facility according to agency standards and New York State regulations.
- Monitor client activities and report as necessary to the Crisis Services Supervisor and other Advocates.
- Ensure that Facility residents observe all Residential Facility guidelines and regulations.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, the Criminal Justice system, and Social Services to facilitate seamless client support.
- Report Residential Facility needs to the Crisis Services Supervisor regularly.
- Assumes other related duties, as assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Must exercise a non-judgmental, client-centered approach in working with clients.
- Must have knowledge of child development, crisis intervention and counseling techniques.
- Must have a valid New York State Driver's License with good driving record and have access to a reliable, insured, vehicle.
- Must have the ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Must possess familiarity of community resources.
- Must be able to be flexible with own work schedule to meet program and coverage needs.
- Must be organized, resourceful, flexible, have good assessment skills, and able to utilize good independent judgment in dealing with situations that arise.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma/GED required; and
- Experience in human services, victim’s services issues, criminal justice or related fields preferred.
- Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply.
